Massanutten Ski Trail Map

NEW for 2023-24 Winter Season:
  • A new detachable lift, Peak Express, replaced the Peak Quad Lift.
  • New Double Black Diamond Trail (No Hessitation) with automated snowmaking and LED lights.
  • Replaced existing snowmaking pipe and hydrants on Paradice trail.
  • 12 additional TechnoAlpin automated fan snow guns.
  • Expanded seating and menu at the Mid-Mountain Grill.
  • New online interactive trail map.
  • New Peak webcam.
  • New Season Pass Holders Appreciation Sessions: Massanutten Season Pass Holders have exclusive use of the slopes on Thursdays from 5 pm - 7 pm starting Jan 11 – Feb 29. We’ll be operating the Creekside and Peak Express lifts for these sessions.
New Terrain & Snowmaking:
  • Our new Double Black Diamond extreme difficulty trail (No Hessitation) is a great compliment to the two new Blue Square, more difficult trails (Mueller’s Mile & Ridgecrest) and Black Diamond most difficult trail (Slot) we added last season. The new terrain has dramatically changed the snow experience and flow around the hill. No Hessitation has a steep fall line trail that will increase the challenge factor for advanced skiers and riders.
  • The 12 new TechnoAlpin auto fan guns are primarily in the teaching area and Tube Park, allowing us to reallocate additional guns to The Meadow and other locations around the hill. Snowmaking on No Hessitation will be provided by new automated HKD low energy snowmakers.
  • We also increased snowmaking pumping capacity to provide more snow in less time than ever before!
Rental Shop & Lessons
  • Last year the rental shop expanded into the Learning Center to improve flow and provide space for a larger rental fleet and that trend continues with even more equipment and new boot dryers.
  • Limited seasonal equipment rentals will be available for this season.Click here for more info.
  • The Snow Sports School is tweaking popular programs. Click here for more info.
Going Green!
  • Massanutten’s Sustainability Committee has been hard at work since Summer of 2021 to make lasting changes that will help reduce our carbon emissions. In 2021, we joined NSAA’s Climate Challenge. Since then we have initiated the process to install solar arrays in three different locations across the resort, upgraded to LED lighting on the ski trails, and trading out snow guns for ones that are more efficient. There are only a few examples of the many projects going on around the resort! Learn more here.
  • Electric vehicle charging stations.
  • Water fountains for reusable bottles around the Ski Lodge and Learning Center which help to eliminate single-use plastic water bottle use!
  • Waste oil heating furnace used to heat the snowmaking maintenance building in winter by recycling used motor oil.
  • New recycle bins around the resort and on the mountain at the top of Ridge Triple and Peak Express lifts.
  • Recycling bins located around the Resort. Fun Fact:Massanutten diverts more than 150,000 pounds of recyclable material from the landfill annually!

Resorts Companies Inc./Massanutten Resort Promotes Executives & Prepares for Growth

Charlottesville, Va. (June 22, 2023) -- The Resorts Companies, Inc., owner of Massanutten Resort in Rockingham County, Va. near Harrisonburg and Wilderness Presidential Resort in Spotsylvania County Va. near Fredericksburg, today announced an evolution in its executive management structure.

Steve Krohn, formerly executive vice president, was promoted to president and chief operating officer. Matthias Smith, formerly vice president-resort performance, was promoted to executive vice president.

The company also created a new vice president/marketing role and other positions to further its ongoing success and lead new business initiatives. Searches to fill those roles are underway.

Dice Hammer, The Resorts Companies’ co-founder, chairman and chief executive officer, said “These promotions reflect the consistent growth and the success we’ve seen over the last decade, including during the pandemic. Most importantly, these changes position the company to undertake several significant new strategic initiatives.”

Hammer cited ongoing recreational development, including ski trail expansion, and the proposed single-family active-adult 55+ community at Massanutten as examples. The latter would mark The Resorts Companies’ first foray into year-round residential development.
The company’s real estate holdings include sufficient acreage, zoning, and master planned sites to increase timeshare condos by another 1,800 keys. It also owns more than 5,000 undeveloped acres, primarily zoned residential, adjacent to the active resort properties.
In recent years, alongside private equity investors, the company has made substantial investments in independent companies to further its strategic business interests.

Currently, the two resorts encompass over 1,500 acres, offering nearly 3,000 timeshare condo keys, 1,800 campsites, and 240 hotel rooms. The two resorts have a combined owner base of nearly 100,000 families, including families now in their fourth generation of timeshare ownership. The resorts maintain RCI® Gold Crown and Silver Crown ratings.

The Resorts Companies, Inc. is a 100% employee-owned ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) company, with approximately 3,200 current and former employees as shareholders. The company currently employs approximately 1,600 full-time, year-round, with approximately 400 additional seasonal staff members hired annually. The Resorts Companies Inc. has owned Massanutten since 1984 and Wilderness Presidential since 1981, when the company was initially founded.
