Here’s How You Can Help:

  • When visiting amenities, always practice physical distancing and stay at least 6’ away from the guests around you.
  • Cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing. Ideally with the inside of your elbow.
  • Wear a face mask indoors and outdoors. (per Virginia Governor's Executive Order 63 and Executive Order 72)
  • Wash your hands (or use hand sanitizer) often and especially before opening doors or touching retail and display/ public items.
  • Let us know if you become sick while you are/were here.

Our Commitment to Cleanliness & Hygiene 

The safety and well-being of our guests and employees is always our top priority, but that commitment takes on special significance considering the global outbreak of COVID-19. We take great pride in maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene. In response to COVID-19, we have updated the following procedures as recommended by the CDC:  
 

Staff Training and Hygiene
  • Employee Training: All Resort employees have completed enhanced COVID-19 prevention and preparedness training. 100% of returning or new employees will also be trained.
  • Hand Washing: Employees are reminded daily of proper and frequent handwashing techniques – emphasizing its importance in combating the spread of viruses.

 

Cleaning Protocols
  • Guest Accommodations: After guests depart and before the next guest arrives, our housekeeping team thoroughly cleans and disinfects guest rooms with a heightened focus on frequently touched surfaces.
  • Public Areas: We have increased the frequency of cleaning and disinfecting in public spaces, with a focus on high-trafficked areas. We also offer hand sanitizer throughout the property for guests and employee use.
  • Back of House: In the areas where staff work “behind the scenes” our Resort has increased the frequency of cleaning with a special focus on high-touch areas like entrances, break rooms, and staff offices.  

 

Our Employees

We have a strict prevention program in place for our team members. Employees are required to perform a daily health self-assessment prior to reporting to work. Any employee with cold or flu-like symptoms must report them to their supervisor and may not come to work.  Any employee beginning to feel or exhibit symptoms must immediately leave the work environment. Employees have received enhanced training to maintain a clean and healthy environment.

Check-In

Prior to entering the check-in building, on check-in days a Resort employee will greet each visitor to the Resort. Only one person per party is allowed to enter the check-in area. Everyone must wear a mask. Appropriate signage will also be displayed outlining proper mask usage and current physical distancing practices in use throughout the Resort. Hand sanitizer is available inside the lobby area for your use.

To safely and efficiently process your reservation for check-in, we ask that you adhere to the following: 

  • To aid in your arrival experience, we have introduced a new guest queuing procedure. As you arrive to the Woodstone check-in building, please have your cell phone available to text or scan in order to join the arrival list. Once added, you will receive a text message alerting you when you are able to enter the building to check-in.
  • After arriving at check-in, only one person from your party is permitted in our lobby areas. Please have all other party members stay in your vehicle. If you need a restroom, please proceed to the entrance of the North Lobby.
  • Visitors are asked to use hand sanitizer and wear a mask in accordance with Executive Order 63 and Executive Order 72.
  • Appropriate signage will also be displayed outlining proper physical distancing requirements.
  • Our staff will work quickly to process your check-in and get your vacation started.
  • Condos assigned at check-in are not able to be moved to ensure your health and safety.

Physical Distancing Protocols For Guests 
  • Per Virginia Governor's Executive Order 63 and Executive Order 72 when you are inside an establishment (like a restaurant, retail or recreation business), masks are required for people aged 5 and over. As a courtesy to others, we also recommend wearing a mask outside when physical distancing cannot be maintained.
  • Select Resort activities and amenities will require guests to wear masks. Visit amenity pages on this website before you arrive.
  • All guests should remain at least 6’ from other guests and employees unless they are in the same traveling group. 
  • When 6’ physical distancing cannot be maintained, facilities may require temperature checks and possibly other safety precautions. 
  • All guests must abide by posted and communicated rules. 
  • Easy access to hand sanitizer will be provided by the Resort.
  • Queue lines are to be properly marked. 
  • Pre-purchase tickets and Charge to Room will be encouraged. 
  • Resort will monitor gathering areas like entry and exits points, rest areas, playgrounds, special events, etc.
  • Abide by all posted facility instructions.
     
Amenity Ticket Purchasing - Guests 

In an effort to manage guest flow, reduce time spent on each transaction, and reduce lines, we recommend, that when possible, all amenity and event tickets are pre-purchased, either by using our existing e-commerce system or over the phone. This also applies to restaurants. Guests must reserve their preferred dining time by calling the establishment or using the Open Dining App. If phone or online purchasing is not possible, we encourage the use of Charge to Room.


Front Desk & Amenities Queue Line Policies

The health and safety of our guests and employees is our top priority. With this in mind, we have physically engineered our guest reception areas and amenities to facilitate proper physical distancing. The list below outlines a few key points to help our Resort community remain safe and deliver a remarkable experience for your family.

  • Floor markings or physical barriers at 6’ intervals at facility entrance, guest reception areas, and point of sale counters throughout the Resort. Please adhere to all markings and signage indicating ingress/egress. 
  • Facilities will safely move guests in/out utilizing separate entrances when possible to lessen interaction. 
  • Where appropriate, guests may be asked to self-band to reduce ticket handling. 
  • Limit amenity ticket sales and capacities to safely operate. 
  • Limit guest access per building square footage or traffic flow. 
  • Monitor guest physical distancing and clearly communicate opportunities for improvement, when appropriate. 
  • Guests are strongly encouraged to utilize text checkout or checkout by phone.
 
Public Areas

This signage will provide direction and expectations regarding capacity, queuing, and physical distancing. Q&A

Is it safe to vacation?
We believe it is safe for most people to vacation. We’re working within Virginia state law and guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that call for physical distancing and limited gatherings. We have been working hard to make Massanutten Resort as virus-free as your home, and a safe, clean, disinfected workplace. 

In this pandemic environment, however, COVID-19 spreads primarily through human interactions. Although we have found many new ways to reduce and limit human interactions, we cannot eliminate all of them.

If you want to strictly limit human interaction and are fearful of most contact, you should consider rescheduling and we do our best to accommodate you at another time.

Similarly, older adults and people of any age who have serious underlying medical conditions that place them at higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19 should consider rescheduling.

Should I come to Massanutten for my scheduled vacation?
The Commonwealth of Virginia does not currently require out of state visitors to quarantine upon arrival in Virginia; if this changes, we will update this post. Please contact us before you pack if you have any doubts. (Please note: That your state or locality may have travel restrictions or quarantine obligations.)

If anyone in your travel party has an illness with COVID-19 symptoms or has been quarantined or self-quarantined for less than two weeks, that person should not come.

How will you manage public spaces?
In a word: carefully. We will routinely sanitize common touch-points and we have installed screens at our check-in windows and points of sale to protect both guests and staff when they are within 6 feet. You will also notice our staff members wearing masks as required or recommended by the CDC and the Governor. Please see the Amenities & Activities tab on this page for more information.

Will lines be longer?
Wherever possible, we strongly encourage avoidance of ticket lines and promote on-line purchasing of tickets. Lines may look longer because we will ask people to stand on markings to keep people 6 feet apart. This will lengthen lines. To better manage physical distancing in lines, we are asking that no more than one or two people stand in line for their group while the rest of the travel party remains in a vehicle or apart from the line.

How will parking change?
Where ample parking exists, we ask that drivers park their vehicles in a way that leaves empty parking between the vehicles on each side. When all available space is filled with this empty space approach, patrons may begin to fill the empty spaces.

What about gatherings?
We will enforce Virginia’s “Gathering Ban” on Resort property. An executive order of Governor Northam's imposed limitations on gatherings. Virginia’s “Gathering Ban” prohibits all public and private in-person gatherings of more than 25 individuals (Executive Order 67 of November 13, 2020). A “gathering” includes, but is not limited to, parties, celebrations, or other social events, whether they occur indoors or outdoors. If Resort staff observe a gathering that appears to violate this, they will politely approach and remind the patrons of the rule and encourage the gathering to disperse or separate into gatherings of lawful size. The Governor may issue more or less restrictive orders in the future, and we will comply accordingly.

What amenities will be open?
We plan to reopen all of our amenities when state law permits and for as long as supplies of masks (where required) and cleaning supplies for sanitizing surfaces are adequate. Visit www.massresort.com/hours for the latest information.

You should plan your visit carefully. Capacity limitations may be reduced to allow physical distancing and prevent crowds, and for our most popular amenities, it may be necessary to shorten ticket sessions so that all of our owners and guests can share in the fun. 

How will you clean my rooms?
In addition to the normal practice of changing sheets and linens and thoroughly cleaning rooms, our staff will now be wearing gloves and masks when they are working in rooms, and they will focus extra attention when sanitizing common touchpoints such as knobs, handles, tabletops, countertops, and bathroom fixtures. All HVAC filters have been changed before reopening.

Do I have to wear a face mask?

How do you care for your employees?
We have implemented dozens of new procedures to protect our employees from acquiring COVID-19 from one another. First and foremost, our employees implement self-screenings for COVID-19, are not permitted to come to work sick, and are furloughed and eligible for benefits when they stay home due to illness. To list a few changes in addition to physical distancing, training has been administered, work stations and touchpoints are disinfected regularly, and work stations have been distanced. Shifts are staggered, employees wait in cars for their shifts, face coverings are provided, and employees work from home when possible.

What should I do if I think I am sick?
Promptly notify your travel party and return to your accommodations avoiding contact with other people - including those in your travel party and isolate yourself as much as possible. From your accommodations, one of your travel party should notify us at 540.289.4054 of your immediate plans, or if you need assistance. In cases of medical emergency dial 911.

What about alcohol restrictions?
The on-site sale, consumption, and possession of alcohol is prohibited after 10:00 p.m. in any restaurant, dining establishment, food court, brewery, microbrewery, distillery, winery, or tasting room. All restaurants, dining establishments, food courts, breweries, microbreweries, distilleries, wineries, and tasting rooms must close by midnight. Virginia law does not distinguish between restaurants and bars, however, under current restrictions, individuals that choose to consume alcohol prior to 10:00 p.m. must be served as in a restaurant and remain seated at tables six feet apart.

The Commonwealth of Virginia will be requiring us to reduce the capacity to help slow the spread of Coronavirus. To limit capacity, we will provide tickets and services for purchase in advance online, when at all possible. This will require you to plan further in advance than in the past. Capacity limits will apply to lift tickets, lessons, rentals, snow tubing, ice skating, dining, the WaterPark, and most places where crowds could gather. While there are limits, we believe these reduced capacities will both enhance your experience and help limit the spread of the virus.

Update December 15, 2020

The Governor published VA Executive Order 72 on Thursday, December 10. 

Here is an overview of those guidelines: 

Wear a face mask indoors and outdoors. 

Do not participate in in-person gatherings of more than 10 individuals who do not live in the same residence. 

All individuals in Virginia should remain at their place of residence between the hours of 12:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m.. 


Update November 16, 2020

The Governor updated the VA Phase 3 Re-Opening Guidelines on Friday, November 13, 2020. 

Here is an overview of those guidelines:

Reduction in public and private gatherings: All public and private in-person gatherings must be limited to 25 individuals, down from the current cap of 250 people. This includes outdoor and indoor settings. This restriction does not affect individual business and amenity capacities as outlined in the Phase 3 Guidelines. 

Expansion of mask mandate: All Virginians aged five and over are required to wear face coverings in indoor public spaces. This expands the current mask mandate, which has been in place in Virginia since May 29 and requires all individuals aged 10 and over to wear face coverings in indoor public settings.

Strengthened enforcement within essential retail businesses: All essential retail businesses, including grocery stores and pharmacies, must adhere to statewide guidelines for physical distancing, wearing face coverings, and enhanced cleaning. While certain essential retail businesses have been required to adhere to these regulations as a best practice, violations will now be enforceable through the Virginia Department of Health as a Class One misdemeanor.

On-site alcohol curfew: The on-site sale, consumption, and possession of alcohol is prohibited after 10:00 p.m. in any restaurant, dining establishment, food court, brewery, microbrewery, distillery, winery, or tasting room. All restaurants, dining establishments, food courts, breweries, microbreweries, distilleries, wineries, and tasting rooms must close by midnight. Virginia law does not distinguish between restaurants and bars, however, under current restrictions, individuals that choose to consume alcohol prior to 10:00 p.m. must be served as in a restaurant and remain seated at tables six feet apart (as of November 15, 2020).

We are excited to announce our brand-new water slides at the Outdoor WaterPark are OPEN for a splashin’ good time! The slides opening will include the Rockingham Racer plus the new slides – MASS Mayhem, Peak Plunge, and Valley Vortex.

In addition to the water slides, the outdoor activity & wave pools will be open. In accordance with Phase 3 guidelines of the Virginia Forward Plan, interactive play features are currently not allowed to be open. The Indoor WaterPark will remain closed at this time.

The WaterPark may close on days where temperatures do no exceed 70° and during inclement weather.

Guests will be able to grab a bite to eat at The Chill Grill, test their gaming skills at Diamond Jim’s Arcade, and purchase towels and must have souvenirs at MerchanDice Surf Shop.


Update June 24, 2020

The Commonwealth of Virginia will move into Phase 3 on July 1, 2020. Massanutten is working hard to re-open previously closed amenities and should have some ready to go on July 1 or shortly thereafter (with Phase 3 restrictions in place). This would include some of our Resort swimming pools. We will post an update on here and on the Massanutten WaterPark page as soon as we have more information. Reopening responsibly and as safely as possible is our number one priority and it takes time to do it right.

Massanutten Resort in Virginia Announces a Phased Reopening Starting June 12, 2020

Premier All-Season Resort in Virginia Is Getting Ready for its Phased Reopening by Conducting Staff Trainings, Revamping its Activity Program, Deep Cleaning the Property and More

McGaheysville, Va. – May 21, 2020 – Massanutten Resort, a premier all-season resort destination in the heart of Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, today announced its plans to reopen operations in phases starting June 12th. As part of the initial reopening phase, the resort will open at partial capacity, and amenity availability will be based upon current guidance/restrictions from the Virginia Department of Health and Governor’s office. In preparation for its reopening, Massanutten Resort employees are preparing the property and undergoing extensive training on safety and operational protocols.

“Our property is unique in both its size and variety of amenities, and we’ve taken the development of our new re-opening plans and protocols very seriously,” said Matthias Smith, general manager at Massanutten Resort. “We take great pride in delivering remarkable experiences, and we are looking forward to welcoming guests once again to enjoy the mountain vistas and breathe in the fresh air."

Upon opening, Massanutten's retail shops, day spa, golf courses and restaurants will be available for guests to enjoy, though there will be limitations to hours of operation and capacity, along with some operational changes. For guests that wish to dine at the restaurants, calling ahead to reserve their preferred dining time is recommended. In an effort to manage guest flow, reduce time spent on each transaction and reduce lines, the resort also recommends that all amenity tickets are pre-purchased, either online on the resort’s website or over the phone. Queue lines will be properly marked for guests’ convenience.

The resort is working on a revamp of their activity program, which will abide by restrictions, while still providing a great vacation experience. A couple of the new programs currently in development are a weekly resort parade led by Massanutten’s mascot Theo the Bear and a drive-up movie experience, utilizing the space available in the ski area.

Rigorous cleaning and disinfecting procedures at the resort covers accommodations, public areas and office spaces. These procedures include frequent sanitization of high-contact points, such as elevator buttons, door handles, reception counters, chairs, windows and restrooms. Furthermore, guests are advised to follow all of their local and state guidelines and restrictions, e.g. stay-at-home orders or travel restrictions, that are active during their intended dates of stay at the Resort.

Even though we are still closed, our teams have been hard at work preparing the property and training our employees for the day that we can re-open. Currently our Commonwealth is still in a stay-at-home order and under non-essential travel restrictions, however, we are hopeful that these restrictions will start to ease up in the coming weeks. Massanutten Resort - COVID-19

All playground equipment at Massanutten Resort is closed as part of our response to limiting the spread of COVID-19 in our community. This includes the play structures at Woodstone Recreation Center, James E. Lambert Park and Lions Centennial Community Park, as well as all fitness stations and bathhouses across the resort.

Open green spaces and outdoor areas such as basketball, tennis, & volleyball courts will remain usable at this time, but we are unable to provide equipment for use by the public. We are unable to commit staff to constantly sanitize and/or monitor the number of individuals at our parks, so please use your best judgment and adhere to the CDC guidelines that are in place at this time. Continue to practice social distancing while using our parks and other green areas, keep at least 6 feet of space, and wash your hands often.

Massanutten Resort Amenity Closure Notice
In these extremely challenging times, we would first like to take a moment to thank all of you for your support and understanding as our teams work through day-to-day decisions with attention to the future. We recognize we need to do all we can to ensure the health and safety of our guests, our employees, and the community.

Over the past week, we have taken steps to close or pare down our facilities and today we add our gyms and escape rooms to the closure list. Virginia BBQ & Pizza Co. and Campfire Grill are still available for take-out.

Right now, we are looking to re-open on May 17th, but will certainly be ready sooner should the circumstances change. We have great hope for the future. Stay well.

Massanutten Resort - COVID-19 Update
March 17, 2020

Governor Northam announced this afternoon that Virginians “should avoid non-essential gatherings of more than ten people, per federal guidelines.” Massanutten Resort is working through the steps we need to take to help ensure that we and our guests can comply with this request in the interest of public health and safety. We know that this will affect restaurant operations, recreation centers, certain activities, and events. As soon as we have updated facility and operations information, we will add it to this webpage.

Massanutten Resort continues to take steps to ensure we are utilizing safe ‘social distancing’ practices.

With that, we have released a lineup of activities that fall within these parameters.

The well-being of our guests, employees, and community continues to be our number one priority. While there are currently no reported cases of COVID-19 reported at the resort, we will continue to take proactive measures to prevent infections locally including practicing social distancing, utilizing approved CDC cleaning products, and working with guests who would like to alter their travel plans.

Massanutten Resort - COVID-19 Operations Update
March 13, 2020

Massanutten Resort is continuing to take proactive measures to protect our owners, guests, and our employees.

We are open for business however we are limiting large social gatherings. The following activities have been suspended/altered for this weekend:

  • Live Music and the Live at the Lodge Encounter's Lounge (cancelled)
  • Movie Night (cancelled)
  • Bingo Night (cancelled)
  • Karaoke (cancelled)
  • WaterPark-daily ticket sales limited; onsite guests and online purchasers will be given priority.

We are also working to create appropriate space between tables at our restaurants and in public areas, including check-in areas.

We recommend that everyone practices social distancing and remain at least 3-6’ from the party next to you. Another measure for consideration is to get takeout from VA BBQ, Campfire Grill, Hideaway Lounge, or Base Camp.

In the upcoming hours and days, if additional changes to operations become necessary, we will update guests via our facebook page and website.

We also understand that everyone needs to make decisions that are right for themselves, their families, and their communities.

We will continue to closely monitor the situation and collaborate with health officials. Hopefully, we can all work together to mitigate the spread of this novel virus. 

Coronavirus Mitigation:

  • Avoid traveling if you are sick.
  • Avoid contact with sick people.
  • If you are 65 years or older, have compromised immunity, or have a pre-existing health condition, it is advised to avoid air travel and large crowds.
  • Maintain at least 6 feet distance from those that are coughing or sneezing.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Clean your hands often by washing them with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60%–95% alcohol. (Tired of singing “Happy Birthday” while you are washing your hands? This website will make any song into a handwashing jingle!)
  • in the wastebasket. If you do not have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your sleeve in the elbow. In either case, wash your hands thoroughly after.
  • If you are healthy, it is not necessary to wear a facemask. Facemasks are most effective when used by people who are already ill to prevent the spread of germs. Please protect our healthcare workers.

Massanutten Resort-COVID-19 Statement and Update

Over the past several weeks, Massanutten Resort has been carefully reviewing and digesting updates related to the Coronavirus and COVID-19. This includes outreach to the Virginia Department of Health and other industry-specific contacts. With the well-being of our owners, guests, and employees in mind, we wanted to share with you how we are responding.

In addition to helping to direct people to the right information and utilizing cleaning products recommended by the CDC, we are also conducting extra training and cleaning with staff throughout all Resort departments and coordinating with local and regional health offices.
